University Council Selected Committee Reports
Now that Staff Council has increased representation on University Council, we will include reports from our members beginning in the Fall of 2007
Communications
Guillermo Alzuru, Morgan Nolan
1. The committee piloted an effort to videotape staff council meetings and make them available via the web. While the pilot was successful, the time required was extensive and the project ended.
2. Successfully completed another newsletter.
The Communications Committee will develop and implement, subject to approval of the Staff Council, procedures for communicating information to classified personnel concerning those matters which affect the general welfare of the entire University or which concern classified personnel and other non-faculty status employees. The Committee will also establish a mechanism for communicating the business of the Staff Council to the news media and others outside the University community. The Committee will be responsible for responding to messages left in the Staff Council voice mail box and e-mails sent to the council web site.
Health & Safety

The Health and Safety Committee will review and evaluate policies concerning University System safety, the health of University employees, and the safe utilization of University equipment and facilities. The Committee will make recommendations to the Staff Council concerning necessary changes in such policies. The Committee will appoint a member to the Pedestrian Safety Committee.

The Legislative Committee will monitor legislation that could impact staff and disseminate information accordingly.
Needs & Concerns

1. The Needs and Concerns Committee met once. There was no new business at that time. Temporary chairs have been selected to serve until June when a new committee chair will be selected.
The Committee on Staff Needs and Concerns will consider all issues that concern the classified personnel and other regular non-faculty status employees and that have not been assigned to other Standing Committees or to an ad hoc committee. The Committee will formulate policies and procedures for recommendation to the Staff Council.
Pay & Classification

The Pay and Classification Committee will examine, monitor, and discuss pay and classification issues as they pertain to staff and to act as liaison between Human Resources and Staff Council (and to report to the latter) on these issues.
