The Georgia Center (GC) offers numerous educational opportunities for the entire community of UGA and Athens throughout the year, as well as activities for their children during the Summer. There are many different types of classes that can be taken in various formats, print-based, face-to-face, or online. Take a look at the complete list of classes and opportunities.
Professional and Personal Development Classes
Provide a variety of non-credit short courses, from career development to personal enrichment. Some examples are: business education, computer instruction, insurance education, home finances, photography, healthy living, cooking, mindfulness and stress reduction, and many more. Certificate Programs
Offer certification courses that lead to a certificate of completion from the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education. You can obtain a certification in many areas, like turfgrass management, health care, private detective, marketing research, forestry, pharmacokinetics, etc. Check the entire list.
The Summer Academy at the University of Georgia
(SAUGA) “is a series of academically focused summer day camps designed to keep the minds and bodies of 10- to 17-year olds active during summer break.” Follow the link for detailed information.
Public Service and Outreach
As part of the obligation to provide lifelong learning education and development opportunities, the GC offers many such opportunities, ranging from Pre-Collegiate Youth Outreach Programs to Early Childhood Initiatives. The GC Service and Outreach arm has some wonderful programs.
Conferences at the Georgia Center
The Georgia Center provides comprehensive services for professional associations, educational organizations, businesses, government entities and the community. Event coordinators and staff can customize the details of a conference, meeting or special event to meet your needs. Check it out.
If you are involved with a group in town, or know of someone who may be interested in holding a conference, banquet, awards ceremony, wedding reception, etc., the GC may be the best option.
The GC offers all of the above, and everything is available to UGA staff, right here on campus.
Additionally, many faculty, staff, and students have lunch daily at the GC, in one of its two fine restaurants: the Savanna Room–a full serve, elegant place, perfect for a business lunch, and the more casual Courtyard Café. Both have outstanding value meals.
Georgia Center Conference Center & Hotel Details
The Georgia Center is the world’s largest and most comprehensive university-based conference center. Its technologically advanced facility is located on our campus, across the street from the Stegeman Coliseum, it encompasses 300,000 square feet, including space for meetings, banquets, exhibitions, dining and lodging. The GC is an ideal location for conferences, meetings and special events.
Many groups choose the GC to hold banquets or private meals in its 600 plus capacity banquet areas. The GC has also being the site of several weddings receptions. The GC recently held the Carter Conference, one of the greatest events ever at UGA. President Carter and Ms. Carter stayed at the GC hotel.
The hotel has 200 beautifully decorated rooms and suites, with all the modern amenities. Many people don’t know that UGA employees’ relatives can stay in the GC hotel, provided that there is availability.
