Drapery Makers

2012

Several months ago I asked for recommendations for an individual or company to make drapes for the windows of one room and swags for another (We have a very old house with non-standard sized windows, doors, etc.). The first recommendation that came to me was for a seamstress outside of Clarke county. The finished product was far from satisfactory, both in the measurements and the quality of the work. I talked to another company, which is not local, but covers this area, and the rep who came out to the house showed me limited fabrics and offered no suggestions for window treatments.

Then I found this local business in Watkinsville: iDreamofDrapery.com at 13.5 N Main Street in Watkinsville. The owner is Kristina Butler, and I can’t say enough good things about the quality of her work! She gave me samples of fabric to take home; suggested possible window treatments; and promised to have them ready before Thanksgiving – a promise she kept! The quality of her work is absolutely top-notch – even to the trim on the side seams of the drapes and valances. Moreover, I considered her price more than fair. If you ever need draperies, visit her shop in Watkinsville, or go to the website. I am very pleased with the finished work she did!

Here's the info. I received on drapery makers. Clearly a number of people know Brenda's work and think highly of her.

  • Brenda Sorrow with Longcreek Sewing does some wonderful work. She has photos at her shop. She made two prom dresses for my daughter who
elected that route so she would have something that no one else would have. They both were very lovely and professionally done. Brenda
has been in business for many years. Her number is (706) 742-8947.

I know a lady that makes a lot of drapes, she has her own sewing business; she doesn't advertise, but stays busy all the time just from word of
mouth recommendations. She is Brenda Sorrow 706-742-8947.

Brenda at Longcreek Sewing in Winterville does a wonderful job. She is in Winterville. She made drapes for me for 4 sets a window for $10.00 a
window!!! The drapes were simple but still! $10.00 is a great price! She has photos of all the window treatments she has made in the past.
You should check her out! Brenda Sorrow in Winterville - 706-742-8947

Brenda is very professional and came recommended to me through the listserv about two years ago. Since then I have had her hem pants ($3) and
make me a suit for my son's wedding ($20 plus materials). Whenever I am there, people are either bringing her something or picking up
something - and more often than not it is draperies, slip covers, or other household stuff. I know her to be professional and reasonable,
and I'm sure she has pictures of her work that she w/b willing to share. She has a shop next to her home - I think it is Long Creek Sewing.

  • I highly recommend Tammy Carpenter who lives between Winder and Monroe. She made the window treatments for my family room about two years ago.
She came to my house, looked at my decor, talked to me about what I liked and disliked in window treatments, and then gave me her recommendations.
She also had lots of pictures of her work. She even made recommendations on the fabric and gave me the names of several places to look at fabric.
(She tells you how much fabric, etc. that you will need and you have to purchase the fabric.) When she returned home, she sent me a sample of the
fabric and cording that she had recommended. It took her 3-4 weeks to make my window treatments and she came and hung all of the window treatments
by herself. Tammy is late 30's - early 40's and a very stylish person. Her phone numbers are 678-389-4409 (home) and 404-427-3168 (cell).
  • Lea Ann Kemp does that. I can't go into extensive detail because I haven't looked over her stuff or used her, but she and her husband are in the
