- Martha McElhanon at Hawks Creek Farm is a wonderful trainer for young girls. She mostly does hunters, but also can do western.
I can recommend Martha McElhannon who was teaching me last year. She does both English and Western style. I'm about 40 years old but she mostly teaches younger folks (teenagers). She is knowledgeable and patient and can provide different horses for different levels. She operates out of Hawk's Creek Farm which is a new facility a few miles from Winterville. If I remember right, she charged about $50 for an individual hour and $40 for collective sessions. She used to be a trainer for UGA's Equestrian team for some time. But it was her who got me in shape for a very demanding hunting trip out west in Montana. Her phone number is: 706-461-1012.
If your daughter is interested in riding English, I'd recommend Leslie Norris at Dublin Downs near Lexington, Ga. She is excellent. Teaches good horse care and safe handling as part of her riding program. Her number is 706-207-8542.
My instructor, Merrilee Thoresen, has a number of child students. She's a top-notch instructor and has very well-trained, reliable horses.
