Recommendations for new Coffee Shop and Restaurants 1-09
Redeye Coffee Shop, Your Pie, Brett's and Chef Ming restaurants
With the coming and going of new places, very often we don't try out a restaurant or new
shop without hearing from someone who has been there.
The classic "Have you heard anything about it?"
I have several recommendations to offer that I thought are definitely above
Redeye is at 297 Prince Ave -Suite 10 (in the Bottleworks across from where Bischero's was) - website:
Redeye Coffee Shop (opened up just a month or two ago) has great coffee - a different brewing method,
each cup made fresh - it's a very pleasant space, good for reading, studying, great natural light -
Gregg Carey (owner) has also plans to add some baked goods and additional food, to display art and
be an active part of the local community. I met a friend there recently and we knit for a couple
hours while enjoying the coffee.
- YOUR PIE is located in the Beechwood shopping center (I think where the Blimpies used to be).
My husband and I ate there recently and really enjoyed the food - it's not cheap, (10" personal size
pizzas can be $6-$8) but "The Nat" was very good, and the crust is crisp and thin - you aren't being
stuffed with dough. Additionally, the staff was attentive and twice asked us while eating how was the
food was, and did we need anything to just tell them... service!
- BRETT'S (Atlanta Highway by Blockbuster's - it's the old Loco's location)- you can get a really good,
rare hamburger! if you want it that way. My husband likes their brisket, and the fish taco's are good too.
Try the Vidalia Strings... (blue cheese dressing is esp. recommended on salads) Lots of choices on the menu,
and we are happy with prices and service.
4 - CHEF MING chinese restaurant at the other end of the Home Depot shopping center off Epps Bridge - my husband
and I both think this is some of the best chinese food in Athens. He's esp. fond of the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce,
while I like any of the lo mein's. It's a small place, no buffet and the food and presentations are very fresh.
